March 8th, 2012 Hikvision has released a 1.3 megapixel mini dome camera which delivers high-quality monitoring up to HD720P real time. Featuring a rugged weatherproof and vandal-resistant housing, the DS-2CD7164-E is a versatile surveillance solution for both indoor and outdoor applications where image clarity is paramount.
The DS-2CD7164-E uses complementary color filters, and with automatic gain control (AGC) activated, it can provide bright images even in dimly-lit environments such as corridors and warehouses. The DS-2CD7164-E can operate at levels as low as 0.01 Lux @ F1.2. The camera is therefore particularly useful in locations where management want to switch off corridor and other non-essential lighting after normal working hours to reduce energy consumption and meet a ‘green’ agenda. By providing clear images despite low ambient light levels, this mini dome can help end-users to be ecologically sound.
Another key benefit of the dome is that there are various frame rate options according to usage demands. If required, the camera will operate in real time (30fps) at 1280 x 960 or 1280 x 720 (60Hz) with users having a choice of three codecs, H.264, MPEG4 or MJPEG.
With its streamlined housing (99.9 x 97.5 x 46.5 mm or 3.93 x 3.84 x 1.83″), the camera will fit into the palm of the hand. This compact size with hidden visibility reduces the risk of casual vandalism but in the event of attack or accidental contact, the enclosure provides protection up to international standard IK10 (equivalent to 20 joules).
The inconspicuous body of the DS-2CD7164-E makes it suitable for stores and gaming establishments where cash, playing cards and gambling chips are handled. But this mini dome is incredibly versatile, and with its IP66 rating is suitable for outdoor usage with intense activity such as monitoring of entrances. Recording a broad view, the camera allows the user to zoom in later on faces without losing resolution.
The unit is supplied as standard with a 4mm @ F1.8 lens but 2.8, 6 and 8mm options are also available. Image settings, which include saturation, brightness and contrast, are adjustable through client software or via a web browser. PoE allows power transmission, viewing and control of the camera to be achieved with a single cable, so reducing installation costs.
